They're not trying to prevent riots. There are not going to be riots. They are trying to stop cars from swarming the area because there is no parking. You can still get there and leave by means of public transportation easily.

I suspect they are doing that in hopes of avoiding rioting.

I am shocked that people r not assuming that if McCain wins, some idiot or idiots will try to assassinate him because they will feel he ''stole'' the election. This election is only proving how non-progressive our country is in terms of groups feeling threatened by other groups. I am feel more threatened by extremists, whatever their race, religion, political affiliation may be.
As for Chicago raising the bridge, this is something I have not heard, but I would think it is a security precaution, at the same time being a safety hazard. One man is safety at the expense of all others.

I hate to even think it, but it could be a safety precaution. I live on an island and there is little crime here though we are right next to a heavy crime area. Alot of that is due to it being so easy to seal off traffic so no one could leave.
